Daniel Szalai (born 1991) is a Budapest based artist, currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Photography at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. With a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design Theory and several years of experience in film production, he works on large-scale, photography-based projects, dealing with global issues and personal subjects. His latest series, Novogen focuses on technology and man’s relation to nature by investigating industrialized farming and the use of animals in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2018, he became a laureate of the Carte Blanche award. In the same year, he was selected for the International Talent Program of BredaPhoto 2018, as well as for the 2nd Cycle of PARALLEL - European Photo Based Platform. He was awarded the grand prize at the Budapest Portfolio Review 2018. Daniel is a member of the Studio of Young Photographers, Hungary.
